I was just recently diagnosed with ADD and hypothyroidism. Then I have started a regimen of trial and error with meds. First beginning with Strattera and quit for side effects, then on Ritalin, which made me rash and now I am back on Adderall. First time I quit Adderall because the cost, but now I really think this works the best for me. I don’t know if there is anyone else who experienced the same.

Hello. A lot of solution for those issues is just in one thing - a diet program and a healthy lifestyle. When you have a problem like this, you should also learn how to eat when you are dealing with anunderactive thyroid. It is nothing complicated, but I think that in the combination of your pills, everything can turn out right. So, I would suggest you try this and you should definitely add in your eating plan foods that containsoy, Including tofu and miso. It is a little bit hard to find it on the market, but it is possible. Tell me if this works for you.

I wondered if there were any ladies out there who are going through menopause, like me, and has ADD and suffering from Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism in the same time. I'm a teacher and it seems that any negative behavior that was slightly noticeable before menopause is so much worse now. I guess ADD and hypothyroidism lead me to the forgetfulness, and I think that some of my grade level colleagues think that I'm turning into a full blown id**t. I am not sure how the Adderall will help but am ever hopeful for some return of mind and sanity and memory. At least I shall expect better concentration for memory and spelling. I really hope Addreall will help both of us, because this became too hard for me. Especially I feel bad when someone tells me something and five minutes later I ask them again. This is something which only leaves me feeling worse then I already do in my own mind. I just hope Adderall will help with hypothyroidism and we will feel better.

Is it possible to take Sythroid 0.125mg (under-active thyroid), and take Adderall XR, (ADHD), at the same time ? I hear, anyone who has a thyroid condition should not take ADHD medication, is this true ?

I'm just answering Sherrilou's question.

ADHD medication should not be consumer with an overactive thyroid--not an underactive.

There are recent studies that even indicate that the amphetamines in adderall are good for people with hypothyroidism. Sometimes it re-stimulates parts of the brain that slowed down with the condition.

Hope that helps.

I'm postmenopausal, have been hypothyroid since 1992, and take Adderall because I'm a hypersomniac i.e. sleep too much. I've never had a problem mixing the meds.

Has mixing the meds helped anyone loss weight? I am dying to get rid of the rest of this weight, thanks to the hypo thyroid.

I took adderall on and off from about 18-26 years old.
Im 28 and was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
What are the odds that this is related????

Though there is no data to suggest that adderall is linked to cancer, I am unsure. I was a healthy person that began taking adderall at age 25. Four years later, at age 29 I was diagnosed with leukemia. With no family history of any form of cancer, and being healthy my whole life, I felt that the adderall I took may have been related to my cancer diagnosis.

Do not take soy products if you are taking medication for hypothyroidism. Soy cancels out the medication.

I have Hashimoto's Hypothyroiditis and take thyroid medication. When I first started taking it, I was following my morning dose with coffee chock full of soy coffee creamer and couldn't understand why the med wasn't working and my thyroid count still showed deficient. I was lucky enough to chance on an article, which I wish I could refer you to here, but don't remember where or what.

When I cut out the soy creamer, I noticed a big improvement. One can't cut out all the soy because it is in all of our processed products, but I don't have to go out of my way to buy soy products. Sadly my beloved oriental dishes with soy are now a rare treat.

I posted a question on this site earlier tonight and just happened upon this thread after. My younger brother is 18 and has been on adderall since he was 5 or 6. He was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when he was 16 and just diagnosed with Hoshimoto's Thyroiditis. I am curious whether the medication could be related to auto immune disorders, insulin levels, etc.

I was told by an endroconolist that thyroid disease and diabetes often run hand in hand. Meaning if you suffer from one of the disorders you are highly likely to develope the other. I was never explained why that is possible whether it was from the medication itself or from THS levels being out of wack.
Sorry I can not help you with whether or not the medicine can cause it but I would guess there is a good posibility of that happening also. Alot of medications, after on them for a while, interfer with the kidneys, liver and other vital organs that could cause insulin levels to fluctuate.

Well- I guess this doesn't help the argument for Adderall causing auto-immune disease. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease when i was 18. I didn't start takign Adderall until I was 28- and what a god send it was. I had dealt with ADD pretty successfully, but after starting Adderall XR- it truly change my entire life for the better.

I too am hypothyroid and ADD, as well as menopausal. If I miss one pill, I get fuzzy and can't remember anything. I also am not performing my job as well as I need to. I am looking for a good medication for the ADD. I am considering Aderal after reading these comments.

i am a 16 year old girl. i was diagnosed with ADD about 6 months ago. i was originally on straterra, but stopped because i started having anxiety attacks and menstual problems. i would get my period more than once a month (three times one month) or i wouldn't get it at all. i switched to adderal about a month ago, and it's helped my attention somewhat, but i still feel foggy and out of it at times. i believe i have hypothyroidism because over the last six months or so, even when i was off medication entirely, my hair has been falling out, including my eyebrows and eyelashes, i've been missing periods or getting very light, short ones, my nails have been chipping and peeling, i always feel tired, even after sleeping as much as 14 hours, i've gained 40 pounds, which is more than i've ever gained at one time, despite eating very little and having almost no appitite, my muscles, especially in my neck and back, feel stiff and sore, i've been having mood fluctuation and will become very upset or very sad without any real reason, and i've been getting sick significantly more frequently than i usually do. does this sound like hypothyroidism, coming from someone who has it? i've never been tested for any thyroid problems, i'm lactose intollerent and tend to eat a lot of soy based foods/drinks, i am currently taking adderall and calcium supplements.
